Meeting safeguarding standards is important for knowing that your venue or club is playing its part in making our sport a safe, secure, accessible and welcoming environment for all.
You can also be confident that you will be meeting your duty of care obligations. Your Member Body may also offer additional benefits including business support, access to training or workshops. Contact your Member Body for more information: British Equestrian- member bodies.
Every venue or club should meet the safeguarding standards detailed in the British Equestrian Safeguarding Policy available here: Running safe events - British Equestrian
This includes:
Safeguarding Officer
This is the person with primary responsibility for the reporting and management of safeguarding concerns, and for implementing procedures to safeguard children at the venue. This person should be appropriately trained.
Criminal record checks
Relevant roles working with children, young people or adults at risk, whether employees or volunteers, need to pass a criminal record check. All team members working directly with under 18s must hold a criminal record check, accepted by the venue or club that they work for.

Equality and diversity
Venues should prioritise ensuring that no individual receives more or less favourable treatment on the grounds of age, sex, gender, disability, race, parental or marital status, pregnancy, religion or belief, sexual orientation and gender reassignment.
